Introduction
My day begins with a knock on my door |

| It’s funny. Part of my mission in life is to do these types of presentations like this and talk about what it’s like to have a disability, but sometimes I don’t know what to talk about. I even started writing a book about what it’s like to be me, but I got stuck. For me, having a disability is just as normal as your life is to you. Think about your lifestyle. You wake up, jump out of bed, run through a morning routine, go to work, and you fill in the blank. | ![]() |

My day begins with a knock on my door. I have someone who comes in and helps me with a morning routine much like you have. My friend helps me get up, take a shower, get dressed, make breakfast, and get me started for the day. I even use the same words as you do. I jumped in the shower this morning just like you did. I guess it took more work than that, but that’s what I did. I guess whatever you’re feeling after our little caramel experiment is what my mouth feels every day. I say I guess because I don’t know how it’d feel otherwise. I’m just going on what friends tell me. So as we go through the next few minutes, I can tell you what it’s like to have a disability and we will talk about some things to do and some things not to do when around people with disabilities, but realize this is just how I am. I don’t know anything else. |
